So true...out of curiosity...how did you get into sci fi writing?

Hi Heleni,

I am not sure, it is a hard question to answer. However , I'll try ....

I remember when as a youngster I watched TV shows with my brother and sister. I was fascinated with the world building. I thought it was all true. They were weird, strange worlds but the stories the way were told, were very captivating. How can a story have so much power over me for an hour I thought ?

Then as a teenager I started reading anything that caught my interest a broad range of novels, some SCIFI, Mystery & Detective and other genres etc. No method here just capricious on the spur of the moment book selections at my local library.

I guess that is where it all started when the library later held community creative writing classes. I was curious and joined. I had nothing to lose they were free.

I started to write which was a great feeling. I never knew it would be so enjoyable. Of course as a beginner I was very shy to show my work. The next step was to take countless writing workshops, and the door opened, there was more to writing than I thought.

Much later as a mature age student I read one of my written SCIFI pieces in a creative writing class. I was nervous, the teacher and class hushed whilst I read it. I sort of knew, I had something there to captivate them.

Well anyway, the teacher said I should write more. I mean I liked my story, but I was not sure if the writing group or teacher did. I felt it was my story, my thing, I had created something out of nothing and that was the best feeling and if people liked it was nice. So I liked them back, if not I moved on and I stuck to my guns and continued writing.

So I thought why not write more SCIFI, and over the years. I did, stopping and starting many times. As life gets in the way

Then COVID came with the lock downs. I started to write with intensity short stories and then steered into SCIFI again , which I saw had a rich field of ideas to draw from.

That is where I'm at the moment, maybe I 'll change genres, hard to predict. LOL

It has been my journey.

So Heleni .... how did you get into painting ? were you always an artist ?

Thresholds are indeed magical—both physical and psychological ones.
